Startups Realized on Impact of Comprehensive Health Benefits on Hiring Skilled Employees Yogesh Agarwal

What types of healthcare facilities are covered by Onsurity?

Onsurity offers a comprehensive set of end-to-end healthcare benefits to employers for their team and employee families that can be purchased on a monthly payment basis. Benefits range from preventative care such as medical teleconsultations, online drug delivery, free fitness and wellness webinars, to inpatient assistance related to claims handling and reimbursements. We have partnered with several healthcare providers to facilitate this breadth of scope and extend it to every employee of a business – permanent and off role.

The vision behind every benefit we offer is to make the healthcare and care space more accessible, affordable and truly useful.

Who are your main competitors in this market?

We are at a stage where we have no competitors in the market. There is no other healthcare brand that focuses on making a team as small as 3 people and as diverse as freelancers, interns and blue collar workers. Nor are there any brands that offer a full set of benefits with a payable monthly subscription.

We have created a unique business model in which we merge the services of healthcare, wellness providers like Practo, 1MG, Cult.fit, etc. and group health insurance companies like ICICI, Tata AIA, etc. on one platform. The approach allows us to provide both preventive and hospital care to employees – all through a single mobile app. We provide the startup ecosystem with a digital platform where they can purchase group health insurance and a plethora of health benefits like medical teleconsultation, health checks, mental therapy sessions, and more.

What strategies do you envision to stand out from the crowd?

There are a few strategies or rather areas of focus that separate us from other providers of employee health services. The main one of this would be the experience that we offer. It is unmatched. Our claims and hospitalization concierge team helps members understand the process inside out, fill out complex forms and get their fair share of insurance claims reimbursements – 24 hours a day. time a member contacts us, we are there for them in less than an hour.

The next advantage or rather the USP of ours would be partnerships. We have partnered with insurance partners and health service providers nationwide who have a strong market presence. It helps us make health care accessible to people from all corners of the country.

The third and probably one of the key strategies for us is our business model itself. We are the first employer-focused healthcare company in India that takes care of employee health beyond group insurance. Our plans which start at Rs 49 per month address employee health needs around preventive and hospital care.

Based on your experience so far, do you think that SMEs, startups and other small organizations are willing to enjoy such healthcare benefits for their employees?

Yes. SMEs and startups have realized the impact of global health benefits on the hiring of qualified employees. They understand that in light of the current state of healthcare and the growing attention to mental and physical well-being, it’s important to provide an affordable and truly useful healthcare package for employees.

In our experience of working with over 1,200 employers, we have not come across a single instance where we have had to convince employers on the front lines of the benefits of providing comprehensive care. SMBs and the startup ecosystem have in fact become so self-conscious about putting health first that they’ve started looking for plans that even cover employee families.

During this pandemic time, as most organizations move to the WFH model, do you think organizations will be ready to insure their employees?

The first thing we need to note here is that it is now mandated by the Indian government for every company to insure its employees. But even though we keep that aside for a while, we know that organizations are looking to ensure the health of their employees.

We have seen the employee health space shift from a point where GHI – Group Health Insurance – was just a formality with low coverage of low premiums to today when companies seek to insure their employees and their families in terms of physical and mental well-being. So much so that demand for coverage is now shifting towards additions such as vision and dental care, which have never been included in the traditional group health insurance package.

At this point, the only way the WFH model has impacted the employee health benefit plan is that they have become all the more extensive in terms of geographic reach.

What is your future roadmap and how do you plan to use more investments to strengthen your business model?

Going forward, we are looking to expand our brand beyond healthcare to complement employee benefits and risk-based product offerings. The intention being the same: to make our product offerings affordable, accessible and useful. While this is the end goal we envisioned for Onsurity, for a few years we will continue to strengthen our position as a trusted employee partner in healthcare in India.

Our goal is to integrate over 10,000 MSMEs and 1 million users by March 2023 across India. We will expand our presence in a range of verticals with a focus on companies with sister concerns. It is one of our short-term goals to extend the scope of our Onsurity services to a larger scale.

On a holistic level, the role we play in supporting the Indian economy by making employer-sponsored health care benefits accessible and more ubiquitous will continue to expand.

What health benefits do you have for your employees?

We offer our employees the same benefits that we offer our members. This way, we know that we take care of our partners and their employees in the same way that we take care of our employees. The health services we offer our employees revolve around:

– Group health insurance
