US Senators from Illinois Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin announced a total of $ 5,228,000 in federal loans and grants to help rural communities upgrade drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.

The village of Brownstown is expected to receive a loan of $ 60,000 for the replacement of the water main to bring the water supply system up to the Illinois EPA minimum standards and to eliminate the water main. health issues by replacing two-inch service lines, installing and replacing 21,500 linear feet of water main, and installing radio reading meters, among other updates.

Brownstown’s Fayette Water Company is expected to receive a grant of $ 170,000 to make improvements to the water supply system, including painting the tanks, acquiring a tank mixer, installing fencing and monitoring chlorine levels.

EJ Water Cooperative in Dieterich is expected to receive a loan of $ 940,000 to install and connect 26 miles of main water pipes to existing pipes to improve and strengthen water flows. The project will mitigate a health and safety risk caused by the contaminated wells currently in use.
